Welcome

I am an education-focused Lecturer in the Department of Economics, St Andrews Business School. I joined the department in August 2025, after 4 years in a similar role at the University of Warwick.

Since completing my PhD in Economics at the Vancouver School of Economics (UBC) in 2021, I have specialized in the teaching of microeconometrics, applied microeconomics fields, and applied research to undergraduate and MSc students. One of the exciting things about these fields is their every changing content: new tools generate the opportunity for new research and further learning. This site has information on my teaching philosophy and experience.

Continued engagement in primary research helps me keep in touch with the latest microeconometric developments and makes me a more engaged teacher and supervisor. Right now, I am working on a projects related to xenophobia and foreign entrepreneurship in South Africa, perceptions of employee skill demand in the UK, and the impact of fast-food exposure and adolescent obesity in the UK. You can find out more about these projects here. My research page has the list of my current publications.

Over the past two years, I have been experimenting with the creation of web-based teaching material using RStudio’s Quarto publishing system. I have put together some of this material into a new site: https://neil-lloyd.github.io/digital-resources/.
